Description

WarriorsRewritten is a project between myself, Iycanroc and tori-oislove, that aims to fill plot holes, fix inconsistencies, and apply proper feline genetics to the random sparklecats of the Warriors universe.

More than simply filling in blanks, we also insert our own headcanons as sensibly as possible into canon.

One of which is making Redtail the father also of Brindleface's second litter. For all the lack of monogamy in the first series and the earliest special novels, the characters are truly humanized to such a degree (through falling in love, having the term "mate" refer to a constant partner rather than the last tom a she-cat mated with) that you might as well scrap the idea - the cats are already inbred to such a dangerous degree that multiple mates just makes the headache so much worse. uvu'

Besides, if we think a bit logically on this, Redtail was still alive by the time Brindleface entered the nursery a second time, and by then Sandpaw's just been apprenticed. It'd be a bit awkward if Brindle had just waltzed along and gotten herself a new mate in what, six moons time? And secondly, none of us endorse the idea of Brindleface x Whitestorm in the least. The Erins might prefer to make him the local man-whore like that doesn't clash completely with his gentle, respectful nature?? And honestly Whitestorm's genes are spread far and wide already, it would only serve to make the Clan even more inbred if he also fathered Ashfur and Ferncloud.

Now, for a bit of genetics~ Because the style aside (I'm going for a simpler, more clear-cut style with storybook elements because it's less taxing for me to draw, and the pressure for realism almost did me in if we consider how long I've been partly absent from dA...) these fellas ARE still looking like their purebred selves~

Sandstorm's been dealt with, but let us discuss Brindleface and Redtail for a moment, and we shall start with the lady.

Brindleface has a few issues, design-wise. Firstly, she's a spotted tabby - and while I redeemed that through making Robinwing a tabby, it is actually Fuzzypelt who carries the spotted mutation, under his solid coat (spotted tabby is dominant to mackerel) But otherwise, her blue coat and short fur works splendidly. However, in order for Sandstorm to be genetically plausible, she needs a tortoiseshell mother - which Brindleface now is. By adding cream to her coat (courtesy of Robin, again) that solves everything~ Her chosen breed is the European Shorthair, a recurring breed in her family line.

Redtail looks pretty much like himself, really. But he's no longer what the fanbase has termed "an infertile tortie tom" because actually, there's a way around that, through chimerism. Two eggs can merge in the womb, and what would've been one black, and one red kitten, instead turned into a single, tortoiseshell tomkitten, aka Redtail. Certainly, only one of these eggs would create his sex cells, hence Redtail still only COUNTS as a red tabby, because he breeds red (otherwise Sandstorm would've still ended up a tortoiseshell) alas though, I'm going to have to confess to something; I clear forgot to research this back when I drew Ferncloud. I MADE A FATAL MISTAKE AND IT IS IMPORTANT YOU LISTEN TO THIS: WHEN YOU RESEARCH, DO NOT STOP ASKING QUESTIONS. I did, and turned out chimeras do not breed like torties. So for future reference, Ferncloud will be termed a "cryptic tortie". I'll explain more later.
Anyway, Redtail's not a completely correct offspring for his parents anyhow, because his red fur needs to come from somewhere. Hence Swiftbreeze will be a calico in due time. ;) But that's really all~ Also, his chosen breed is the Norwegian Forest Cat, inherited from papa Adderfang.

That's... a hecka lot of typing done... enjoy the picture at least~ I know it's not like what I usually draw, but like I mentioned, I need also to draw that which is less taxing for me, especially mentally. The normal Purebreds are, currently, VERY taxing...

An interesting note: tortoiseshell toms can breed as both black and red but never as torties. He can have Sandstorm in one litter and Hollyleaf (used as example of coat color) in another. Maximum coat color possibilities!
